I have been a bad blogger. But I am back! I had a blast at the reception at Senator Mark Pryor’s office. The offices are gorgeous and the Senator enjoys a view of the Arkansas River, as well as some awesome art. I saw some of the artists I met at the Calendar signing and Reception at the Governor’s Mansion a couple months ago and met many others. I also talked with an interior decorator, an attorney, a realtor, the hilarious and wonderful family of the woman who painted the cool cupcakes painting in the calendar, and a dentist turned wood turner. We talked about art and craft, of course, life changes and career changes, friendship, future hopes, personality traits, and more. I really enjoyed being around David Pryor and thought he had a tremendous personality. I had to ask someone who he is after we spoke, but, hey, you think that’s lame, ask me why I now refer to Senator Mark Pryor as Burt! You know me, I know faces and I know names but it’s a long while before they go together. Fortunately, Barbara Pryor introduced herself to me, and I was thrilled to meet her. She’s a lively person and I could tell that from across the room! I stayed throughout the event and as I stopped on my way out to express my thanks to Barbara she told me it was her decision to hang my painting in the Senator’s office. Apparently everyone loves it. I think it is because it makes them laugh. I also think that is why I had so many laughs with the people I had just met. Art is a wonderful ice breaker! Art can induce laughter as well as inspire good conversation.
Several of my Little Rock friends showed up for the reception and I was thrilled to see them all. They looked at the art and made plans to meet up at some point later. I would be up all night again if I told you everywhere we went and all the fun things I got to see and do. The pictures above will give you some idea of how much we enjoyed spending the evening together. I have a few pictures from that night which will be posted under the art is everywhere category, so I know you’ll hear more about that weekend. Although, I should add now, that I never did get lost on the trip. I did enjoy a moment of uncertainty about a back road, but it led me just where I wanted it to. Little Rock is nicely laid out.
Today my godson and I made 4 pumpkin pies. He told me the grades he has made in his block scheduled classes this year-all A’s! He is proud and I could not be happier for him. He had a test of all the countries of the world this week and he got all but 3 correct. At the table tomorrow, I’ll be thankful for his increasing maturity, how he rises to the occasion, and is learning to enjoy a little competition. I’ll also be keeping my eyes open for every opportunity to practice gratitude. I hope you all notice something little and wonderful, too. Happy Thanksgiving.
