showdown at Abrya Studio

Jerri Stevens and Kathryn Semolic under the paintings of girls

The show at Abrya Studio was tons of fun! Our paintings clashed, but each found their admirers.

paintings and painters

Jerri and I have a playful clash of our own going on. The past week of art talk and playing with artist friends is made that much sweeter by the fact that I spend most of my time working alone. Now I am settling back into my studio solitude and considering the laughter and discussions I have shared with Jerri and other artists as necessary for my work, as well as for my bliss. I suspect we shall push each other to new heights of productivity. I have proposed a challenge to see who completes more paintings as measured by the square inch in a given period of time. Jerri has several pieces going at once and I liked hearing about the reason for that. Almost convinced me, but I think I’ll stick to my one at a time pattern. It suits my temperament. I’ll let you know if the challenge is accepted and keep you appraised of the terms and progress if it is. In the meantime, I’ll be posting about the Art Colony art car, a lovely local musician, the surprisingly dangerous canoe trip, river fashions, and the petrified Peepeyed Critter dug up at the river by Wendi La Fey and the affect it has had on the Critter Community in the studio.
Jerri Stevens on Kevein Click's handcrafted bar

For now, here is one more shot of Jerri in her gorgeous studio at the Art Colony. She is leaning over a lusciously smooth bar cabinet hand crafted by her husband, Kevin Click. Kevin has a couple of beautiful pieces available at Abrya Studio in the Art Colony of Eureka Springs, AR on N. Main at Mill Hollow Rd. While you’re out on N. Main, head over to Eurekan Art at 150 and see Karen Foster’s incredible Fibonacci sunflower. I think you have about a month to check it out there and the gallery is open every day but Tuesday. I was lucky to get there Saturday night and talk with Karen at her reception just after Jerri’s and mine closed. It was a truly excellent show of Karen’s work. When you go, you can talk with gallery owners(and friends of mine), Ken and Nancy Foggo. They do a great job of getting to know the artists they represent and the stories behind their work and they are just plain fun to chat with. They are offering some my paintings, still lifes and a couple Eureka scenes, as well as my origami mobiles, which are flying to their rightful homes at an amazing rate since I have begun using Swarovski crystals and stone beads to weight them and make them sparkle. I’ll be heading to the arts and crafts supply later to see what sorts of pretty sparkly things I can pick up for the mobiles. I’ll also get my busted glasses fixed. Did you notice I’m wearing my sunglasses now? It’s not attitude, I swear, although there has been a surplus of it this past week or so.
